The game of cat and mouse between Netflix and VPN providers has truly begun as various VPN providers have came out to criticize Netflix crackdown while vowing to evade any measures implemented to region-lock their content.

As reported last week, Netflix has announced their intentions to block users from using proxies in the company’s attempt to enforce content region locking. Many suspected that Netflix’s decision to do so was due to pressure from content owners. Of course, attempting to block proxies is a challenge by itself as Netflix readily admits

Netflix’s announcement has not sit well with both users and VPN providers. VPN providers such as TorGuard and SlickVPN have spoken to TorrentFreak, saying that they intend to counter Netflix’s attempt to block their services. “TorGuard is monitoring the situation closely and we have recently implemented new measures that can bypass any proposed IP blockade on our network,” says TorGuard’s Ben van der Pelt. “We work tirelessly to ensure our customers have access to the entire internet. If we find that our IP addresses start to become blocked, we’ll migrate to new IPs as needed. We also offer the option of static IPs which eliminates the problem away,” says SlickVPN’s Greg Lyda.

From the looks of things, there will be an arms race of sorts happening between both parties with Netflix trying to block VPN services while VPN providers attempt to stay one foot ahead of them. Whatever the case, 2016 seems to be getting really interesting for Netflix.
