The S7 and S7 Edge doesn't come with Quick Charge 3.0

Have you ever wondered why Samsung included higher capacity batteries in the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge? Maybe it’s because both these devices only support Quick Charge 2.0 instead of Qualcomm’s latest Quick Charge 3.0. Surprisingly, and very “un-Samsung-like”, the S7 and S7 Edge feature the same charging technology that came with last year’s flagships – the S6, S6 Edge and S6 Edge Plus.

Depending on where you’re at, you’ll have your S7 handset either running Samsung’s in-house Exynos 8890 or Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 processor. Some of you may think that the Snapdragon 820 variant supports Quick Charge 3.0, but that’s not the case. The Exynos 8890 has Samsung’s own Adaptive Fast Charging, which is Samsung’s version of Quick Charge 2.0. Instead of letting the Snapdragon 820 variant of the S7 line have a charging edge, Samsung has decided to standardize both variants, keeping them with the tamer Quick Charge 2.0 instead of Quick Charge 3.0. Qualcomm has posted its own release of Samsung’s flagships on its own site:

To ensure that you’re spending less time plugged into a socket and more time enjoying your mobile experience, the Samsung Galaxy S7 is outfitted with Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0: It fuels your device up to 75 percent faster than conventional charging.

Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 2.0 is up to 75% faster than conventional charging, whereas Quick Charge 3.0 boasts 4x the speed of conventional charging, and on top of that, 38% more efficient than its predecessor. It seems that the Exynos 8890 wasn’t “quick” enough to support a Samsung equivalent of Quick Charge 3.0, dragging the Snapdragon 820 variant of the S7 line with it. What do you think? Let us know your thoughts.
