Meet the EYECAN+, Samsung’s eye-tracking mouse for the disabled

Samsung isn’t a company about smartphones, remember back on the GALAXY S4 when Samsung shows off eye scrolling on webpages? They were so cool despite being gimmicky and that gives us an idea on how great the company can make great innovative products, the company has done a pretty cool product here called the EYECAN+, an eye-tracking mouse for the disabled that will only require your eyeballs to move.

The EYECAN+’s technicality isn’t mentioned, but it doesn’t require the user to wear anything on their body to make it work, instead it resides in a rectangular box under a monitor that will be able to track the user’s eye between 60cm to 70cm, my guess here is probably a super high resolution camera module built into it or some biometric sensor tracking the human eye like we use to see in security systems.

Of course, the EYECAN+ will require calibration for the first start as every users will have different eyes. The EYECAN+ could really transform the way disabled people use the computer, though I’d like to have a chance to give it a try, I’m imagining if the eye mouse will make my eyes tired after some time. Samsung doesn’t have plans to commercialize the device but to sell to specific industries that can make good use of it. With the EYECAN+, we could probably see the disabled do miracles with technology really soon.
