Smartphone manufacturers have been trying hard to ensure they are able to appeal and reach consumers of all classes, and Samsung is no different. Samsung has announced the Galaxy J1 Mini for its market in the Philippines, a device sporting what may seem like very low-end specs under the hood.

For starters, the Galaxy J1 Mini features a lacksture 4-inch WVGA display with a resolution of 480 x 800. It sports a 5MP rear camera and a lowly VGA front facing camera, a real turn off for selfie lovers. Under the hood lies an undisclosed quad core processor as stated on the website, and 0.75GB of RAM which is way under-par compared to smartphones of this age. the J1 Mini has 8GB of internal storage expandable via micro SD. All of these are powered by a 1,500mAh battery, which isn’t much of a surprise.

At least the J1 Mini isn’t running on Android Kit Kat, it has Android 5.1.1 Lollipop with Samsung’s TouchWiz UI which might weigh the phone’s performance down by a fair bit. The pricing of this handset isn’t available just yet. What do you think about this entry level smartphone by Samsung? For me, I’d rather use a feature phone. Till then, stay tuned!
