A blast from the past: Windows 95 in your browser

We’ve seen and heard many stories of Windows 95 and 98 making comebacks. Not officially, but on different form factors such as on smartwatches, smartphones and tablets just for the legacy fun of it.

This time around, a teenage developer from Scotland named Andrea Faulds, has enabled Windows 95 to run on nearly any web browser using an emulator known as emscripten, which converts C++ to JavaScript in real time. No special software or installation of extra plugins are required, just a simple browser like the popular Chrome.

The legacy OS takes a couple of minutes to load up depending on your internet speed. Everything in it works just pretty much like in the 90’s, although some my find the pixelated screen and icons annoying since it was the pre-HD era back then.

Apart from issues such as software crashes, notably Internet Explorer 3.0 (not surprising) which causes the system to hang, everything runs well. And yes, those old school games are available as well. Minesweeper, Solitaire and a couple more really brings back those memories of simple days. Do you miss old school Windows?
