Xiaomi intends to cook your rice to perfection

From smartphones, to tablets, to televisions, to the extent of air purifiers, and the list goes on. Xiaomi certainly isn’t slowing down in manufacturing smart devices outside the mobile spectrum. Just last week, the competitive Chinese manufacturer has unveiled the Mi TV 3S, sporting a 65-inch curved screen, and it has moved on from that with another smart home appliance – the Mi Induction Heating Pressure Rice Cooker.

Firstly, pressure cookers preserve more vitamins and minerals as compared to normal ones. For Xiaomi’s pressure rice cooker, the temperature is being pushed up to 105 degrees celcius by using 1.2 atm (measurement of atmospheric pressure). So which part of the Mi Induction Pressure Rice Cooker is smart? Xiaomi has a companion app available for you to pair it with the rice cooker. The companion app allows you to scan barcodes on packages of rice, then the rice cooker will cook it for you like a champ, to your preference. This is based on the rice brand, the type of rice and the degree of softness (or fluffiness) you want your rice to be.

The rice cooker consists of a grey cast iron inner pot and the pot is coated with Daikin’s Neoflon powder, making it non-stick. Behind the development of this rice cooker is a former Sanyo engineer, Naito Takeshi, who also happens to be a co-inventor of the IH pressure rice cooker. The Mi Induction Heating Pressure Rice Cooker comes at a ridiculously low price point of 999 RMB (RM613.30) and from the looks of it, this smart home appliance will be mainland China exclusive. What do you think?
