Samsung Pay is launched in China, courtesy of a collaboration between Samsung and China UnionPay. This launch comes slightly over a month after Apple Pay was launched in February, after an announcement last December. The benefit of partnering with China UnionPay means that wherever you can tap or swipe your card in the country, Samsung Pay will work as well.

Certain credit cards and debit cards are supported by Samsung Pay, coming from these banks in China – China CITIC Bank, China Construction Bank, China Everbright Bank, China Guangfa Bank, China Minsheng Banking Corp. Ltd, China Merchants Bank, Hua Xia Bank , Industrial and Commercial Bank of China and Ping An Bank. Nine of them, to be exact. On top of that, Samsung Pay will be adopting an additional six banks in the future, supporting cards from Bank of China, Bank of Beijing, Bank of Communications, China Bohai Bank, Industrial Bank and Shanghai Pudong Development Bank.

Currently, only flagship Samsung handsets have Samsung Pay available, namely – The Galaxy S6 Edge +. Galaxy Note 5, Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge. However, Samsung plans to have mid range devices supporting the payment system very soon so fret not. Further details of the launch can be accessed right here. Till then, stay tuned!
