It seems that Airbnb is in hot soup as a woman who has rented a place is suing them because she found hidden cameras installed at her lodging.

Based on the lawsuit, it seems that the plaintiff, Yvonne Schumacher, claimed that the camera captured “personal and intimate” conversations with her partner Kevin Stockton. Besides Airbnb, Schumacher is also suing Fariah Hassim and Jamil Jiva, the residents who listed the Irvine, California property on the website.

The hidden camera was discovered by Stockton as he noticed a light coming from a living room shelf. According to the complaint, Stockton found a remote-controlled camera hidden between some candles. Stockton noted that the camera was turned on, fully operational, and had a wide-angle view of the living room. The movement of the camera indicates that it was being remotely controlled by its operator.

This camera was used to capture Schumacher numerous times as she walked naked to use the guest bathroom rather than using the master bathroom which was “filthy” according to her.

According to the lawsuit which was filed on Monday in San Francisco federal court, Schumacher is suing Airbnb for negligence as she claims that the company doesn’t do any kind of vetting or background checks on its hosts. She is also suing Hassim and Jiva for violating privacy laws and infliction of emotional distress. Damages were not specified on the suit.
