With the Vive scheduled to begin shipping to customers next month, Valve is getting its digital storefront/games client Steam ready for the headset’s arrival by introducing the SteamVR Desktop Theater Mode Beta.

The SteamVR Desktop Theater Mode is a bridge that allows games not made for VR to be played inside a virtual environment in a sort of virtual home theater with a huge display. In essence, this feature will simulate the experience of playing a game on a huge theater-like screen.

Not much else is known about this feature other than the fact that it is currently in its early beta stages. Furthermore, Valve has said that this feature would be supported on the Vive and “others”, which probably means that other VR headsets like the Oculus Rift would be supported as well.

Valve is expected to showcase the SteamVR Desktop Theater Mode at the Games Developer Conference 2016 that will be held next week, so we’ll probably see a live demonstration of the feature then.
