Nintendo will be making its own debut on the smartphone soon as the company’s first smartphone app, Miitomo, will be launching in Japan on Thursday.

Available for both iOS and Android, Miitomo, translated as Mii Friends, seems to Nintendo’s very own social media application. Users will be able to create their own Mii Avatars and could then come into contact with other Miitomo users when they are in close proximity, much like how the StreetPass system works on the 3DS. The app itself will also come with a mode called Miifotos, which will allow you to add your own Mii into a photo taken by your smartphone’s camera.

Nintendo has said that the game will be a free-to-start application, meaning that the game will feature microtransactions. Thus far, it seems that all of the microtransactions are merely cosmetic changes, so there really isn’t a reason to be up in arms yet.

As for an international release, Nintendo has yet to say anything about it, so we’ll have to wait a bit longer for it.
