Nokia isn’t dead yet, though its mobile division has been fully acquired by Microsoft and will only be able to manufacture its own smartphones until year 2016. Nokia is a huge organization that also does some other things such as speakers, TV boxes, medical devices and etc. Therefore, the Nokia N1 is a little different here, the tablet is manufactured by Foxconn rather than Nokia themselves.

Given Nokia’s current status, it makes sense for the company to have funders behind this great hardware, Foxconn is obviously one of them as the company has opted to take up the Nokia branding, underneath the tablet we find Intel’s Atom Z3580 64-bit processor, which could be another source of funds that helps Nokia or Foxconn develop the tablet. Other hardware are also pretty impressive, such as having a 7.9-inch 2048 x 1536 IPS display, 8 Megapixel main camera and front facing 5 Megapixel main camera. The Nokia N1 is also the first Android tablet to sport a MicroUSB Type-C reversible connector and the 2nd Android tabletto ship with Android 5.0 Lollipop and Nokia’s Z launcher running on top, hardware design is no doubt Foxconn made, the Nokia N1 is made out of a one piece aluminum body with surface anodization, which is very much the same industrial design as the Apple iPad and the Google Nexus 9.

While Nokia has only made the tablet available in China at around $250, we believe it will give other manufacturers a good run for their money once its made available to other countries. How will the Nokia N1 shape the company’s future direction? Can Nokia revolutionize the smart devices once again like it used to? We shall find out once it reaches our shores.
