Just a little over 12 hours ago, Apple brought back a 4-incher, the iPhone SE, the successor to the iPhone 5S, which also sports a 4-inch display. Apple has reported sales of 30 million 4-inch iPhone’s last year, with claims that one-third of the customers are new to the iPhone and iOS ecosystem. At an impressive price point starting from $399 (RM1591.65), the iPhone SE has turned many heads among tech fans. But one may still wonder what the “SE” stands for.

CNET writer Jason Cipriani has posted on Twitter, stating that Apple’s Phil Schiller has told him about the “SE” acronym of the new iPhone:

“Phil Schiller just told me the “SE” stands for “Special Edition” @FortuneTech”

No, it isn’t “Small Edition”, neither is it called the iPhone S “Enhanced”. We’re assuming that the above statement is true, since the source is deemed credible. This “Special Edition” iPhone is in the competition with its bigger brother, the iPhone 6S, sporting the same A9 chip. It features the same 12MP iSight camera, however its front facing shooter is quite a let down. Compared to the 5MP f/2.2 selfie camera of the iPhone 6S, the one on the iPhone SE sits at an extremely under-par 1.2MP with f/2.4 aperture.

With that downsized front facing camera, is the iPhone SE worthy of the “Special Edition” title? Let us know what you think at the comments section below.
