There are many VR headsets, but other than the Oculus Rift, the more recently hyped VR headset would be the HTC Vive, a VR headset announced back last year that HTC co-developed with steam, the Vive is finally official with a $799 price tag and the package comes with the headset itself, two wireless controllers, two wall mounted tracking units, and two software titles – Job Simulator: The 2050 Archives and Fantastic Contraption, which is considerably comprehensive I must say.

The Vive is set to ship on February 29 this year and pre-orders will go on 10am Eastern time at the US, Canada, UK, Germany, France, Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Spain, Switzerland, Ireland, Sweden, Taiwan, China, Japan, Australia, and New Zealand. In order to have a fully functional VR experience, your gaming rig will need to have some powerful hardware onboard, and HTC has recommended at least a GeForce GTX 970 and AMD R9 290, a Core i5-4590 or AMD FX8350 processor, 4GB of RAM, and a HDMI 1.4 or DisplayPort 1.2 to send video to the device, the headset will also require at least Windows 7 to run on.

Our previous encounter of the HTC Vive back in NVIDIA’s event was a really memorable one, the headset demonstrated a great VR experience with very minimal latency and some accurate motion tracking, hence the $800 price tag is somehow very reasonable considering that the headset isn’t just made for phones alone, and it should actually give you a pretty great VR experience in your huge living room.
