HTC has launched its event in NYC a couple of hours back if you aren’t asleep here in Malaysia, the company has announced their most ambitious selfie smartphone ever called the Desire EYE, there has been no announcement of a new One M8EYE. The Desire EYE brings back what a Desire smartphone used to be, powered by a Snapdragon 801 Quad-Core processor paired with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of built-in storage expandable via MicroSD. Why is it called a selfie phone? Because it has dual 13 Megapixel cameras on the front and back yet having a two-tone flash light on the front to make photos in the dark look natural.

The Desire EYE will have a slightly larger display than the company’s One M8 at 5.2-inches with 1080p resolution, the phone is obviously made of soft-touch plastic and IPX7 certified water resistant so you finally can have a HTC phone that goes into the swimming pool. In terms of camera software, HTC has made the Desire EYE’s camera to be able to activate both main and front cameras to take pictures, which requires a hell lot of processing power and that’s where the Snapdragon 801 comes in place, the phone will also automatically take selfies when it realizes that your face is in the perfect frame. The phone will ship with Android KitKat and HTC Sense 6.0.

According to reports from The Verge, despite the Desire EYE having an extremely high resolution front facing camera, its quality isn’t better than the iPhone 6 in low light which is kind of surprising to hear. If you also realize one thing on the Desire EYE, the front facing BoomSound speakers are missing although it still supports the audio enhancement software is still present. TheDesire EYE will be launched in US carriers this month and we expect it to arrive middle next month here.
