Shhhh & Reconnect

Imagine: You and your friends meet up for a little get-together after years of not seeing each other and finally all of you get to catch up with life. Just as the conversation was about to begin, everyone else’s phones start buzzing and next thing you know it, you’re left alone in the corner with a cup of punch in your hand asking yourself why you even bothered to show up for this event while all the other socially inclined human beings get lost in their smartphones. Pathetic much?

It seems like technology in this day and age has proven to be a bane more than a boon where (face-to-face) socializing is concerned. However, Ilwon Yoon might just have the answer to this predicament with ‘Shhhh’ – an app designed to intelligently rid one’s self of mindless notifications when an appointment is in session.

“Most of my works are aiming to enrich communication among people to create vibrant communities with the use of mobile/web technologies,” said Yoon, a graduate from NYU ITP.

Shhhh takes advantage of GPS coordinates to determine when and where to turn off your phone’s countless and at times unnecessary notifications in a gentle manner.

Once set up, the app will run in the background and you wouldn’t have to configure it again. It would stay silent and do all the necessary auto-replying on your behalf and in a very polite manner too!

Shhhh will also remind you that you are currently in a meeting now by giving you a gentle pop-up when you access your smartphone during an appointment.

It also enables you to check on your friend’s availability to chat up or not.

Although the design of Shhhh is complete, the development of the app is still in process and there is no word as of yet when we are to expect a beta release. No matter, below is a light-hearted video summary of Shhhh for your viewing pleasure. Enjoy.
