Obi Worldphone reveals the Obi MV1

Last year, former Apple CEO John Sculley announced that he will be returning to the tech scene with a brand new company called Obi Worldphone. The company’s current line of smartphones are aimed at budget-conscious consumers om developing market. At MWC 2016, Obi has revealed the latest edition to its catalogue of smartphones: the Obi MV1.

The Obi MV1 is an Android-based smartphone that sits at the entry level side of the market. The phone features a 5″ HD display and is powered by a Snapdragon 212 with 1.3GHz quad-core processor with an Adreno 304 GPU. For memory, it seems that the Obi MV1 will come with either 1GB or 2GB of RAM. The Obi MV1 will have 16GB of onboard storage which is expandable to up to 64GB via microSD card. The rear camera on the phone is a 8MP AF OV8865 with LED flash, f/2.2 aperture and is capable of recording full HD videos at 30FPS. THe front camera is a fairly basic 2MP snapper.

What is unique about the Obi MV1 is that it will come with a “Floating Display” and an “Iconic Shape”. According to Sculley, the Obi MV1 is a phone “that fits into your lifestyle at an accessible price without sacrificing form and technology”. Another plus point about the Obi MV1 is the fact that it will be available in two OS versions: Android 5.1 Lollipop and Cyanogen OS 12.1.1.

The Obi MV1 will go on sale immediately in Asian and African markets. The pricing for the Obi MV1 begins at USD 139 (RM 583) for the 1GB RAM configuration and USD 149 (RM 625) for the 2GB RAM configuration.
