Nvidia brings Virtual Reality to SEA

Once the dust was settled regarding Nvidia’s DesignWorks VR briefing, we had the chance to spend some time with two VR headsets. The first was the Oculus Crescent Bay, the other being the HTC Vive. After spending some time with both devices, we can safely say that the HTC Vive was our favourite, mainly because we actually need to physically move around when we were using it.

First off though, we put through the Oculus CB1. If you’ve had the opportunity to try one out during some of the roadshows that occured in Malaysia, you may already have an inkling of how the tech works and feels. For people like us who have yet to try it out, it was a very interesting experience. We’ve manage to play the EVE: Valkyrie demo on it, and it feels so bizzare because, as a former EVE player myself, being this close to the various corvettes and capital ships in EVE is just incredibly awe-inspiring.

However, our curiosity is centred solely on the HTC Vive, mainly because we have heard so little about it. From our time with it, we can safely say that the HTC is the more unique VR headset out of the two, mainly because the headset registers body motion as well. We’ve managed to try out the HTC Vive with Valve’s Portal and a sunken ship, and we can safely say that the HTC Vive has us reaching for our credit cards when it releases.
