Details on the HoloLens have been scarce thus far as Microsoft is keeping a tight lip over their VR headset. In an event held at Tel Aviv, Microsoft Technical Evangelist Bruce Harris has finally revealed some more details over the device such as the battery life and connectivity.

For starters, Bruce states that any universal application that can currently run on Windows 10 can be run natively on the HoloLens right out of the box. The device itself will be “completely wireless”, relying on Wi-Fi and Bluetooth for communication, and there will be no wired option for it.

Battery life of the HoloLens is estimated to be around 5.5 hours under average use. Heavy load will drain the battery faster, giving the HoloLens a 2.5 lifespan under such conditions.

The field of view of the HoloLens is said to be similar to a 15in monitor about two feet away from your face. This rather narrow FoV is attributed to the device’s cost and battery life. Harris has stated that as manufacturing improves, the company intends to expand the field of view once it makes sense from a pricing perspective. In other words, expect an upgrade when the HoloLens 2 is announced.

As for pricing and release date…Microsoft is still keeping that under wraps, but at least we now know what to expect from the HoloLens.
