After being kicked off of WhatsApp, Telegram and other messengers, terrorist group ISIS has decided to create their very own encrypted chat app for communication amongst cells.
This chat app, called “Alrawi”, was discovered by Ghost Security Group (GhostSec), a hacking collective focused on counter-terrorist operations. According to GhostSec, “Alrawi” is similar to another communication app called “Amaq Agency”. The key difference is that “Alrawi” has “encrypted communications features, although rudimentary to Telegram or other more company-created ones”. While Twitter and Telegram are still being used to circulate photos and video updates of the group’s “work”, serious communications such as attack planning and the like has been move to the Alrawi app.
Just in case you’re wondering, Alrawi isn’t available on Google Play and can only be acquired through other means. In a time where governments across the world are trying to weaken, if not outright backdoor, various encryption methods, Alrawi’s existence will probably only fuel the anti-encryption fire.
