Microsoft has just made a rather big announcement today at the Game Developers Conference as they’ve announced that Cross-Network Play and MonoGame support will be coming to the Xbox One.

The biggest news of the day has to be Cross-Network Play. Microsoft has revealed that besides supporting cross-platform play between the Xbox One and Windows 10, Microsoft will also be enabling developers to support cross-network play. This means that players on the Xbox One or Windows 10 would now be able to play with players on different online multiplayer networks using Xbox Live. Simply put, you’ll soon be able to play multiplayer games with the players on PlayStation Network. The first game that will feature cross-network play will be Psyonix’s Rocket League.

As for the second part, Microsoft has revealled that MonoGame support will be coming to the Xbox One soon. As the Xbox One does not natively support Microsoft’s XNA programming framework, developers can now use the open source MonoGame to develop titles for the Xbox One. With Microsoft officially supporting MonoGame, Tom Happ’s Axiom Verge will be coming to the Xbox One with many other titles on the way.
