Chip makers MediaTek has just unveiled their latest high-end processor for the year, and it is called the Helio X25.

Much like its predecessor, the Helio X20, the Helio X25 is a deca-core (10-core) chip. It features the same tri-cluster CPU configuration the X20 has, with two Cortex-A72 cores doing the heavy lifting while two seperate quad-core clusters of lower power Cortex-A53s handle the lightweight stuff. While the configurations are the same, the chips themselves have been given an upgrade. The A72 cores in the X25 have been boosted from 2.3GHz to 2.5GHz, while the Mali-T880MP4 GPU has been boosted up to 850MHz as well. Despite the performance upgrade, the Helio X25 is said to have an almost identical power draw of the Helio X20.

Besides raw horsepower, the Helio X25 will also be able to support up to 25MP camera sensors or dual 13MP cameras, 2k and 4k video support at 30FPS, fast charging via Pump Express 3.0+, the Vulkan graphiics API, Cat6 LTE support, and VoLTE.

MediaTek has announced that a custom Helio X25 will be debuting exclusively on the Meizu Pro 6, which means that the Meizu Pro 6 would either have two variants whereby one uses a Samsung chip while the other uses a MediaTek chip, or the Samsung chip leak was false. Meizu further states because the Helio X25 was co-developed between them and MediaTek, Meizu will have exclusive access to the Helio X25 for several months. Seeing as the Meizu Pro 6 hasn’t had a concrete release date yet, it’s probably safe to say that the Helio X25 won’t be a common sight on smartphones until late 2016.
