The LIVEPAD 8.9 by iPro has just been released into competitive mobile market, with an Intel-powered device which is guaranteed to knock your socks off. The LIVEPAD 8.9 comes with an Intel Atom Z3735F Quad-core processor running Windows8.1. It has 2GB of RAM at 1333MHz and comes with 16GB of storage (There is an expandable card slot for a microSD up to 128GB as well). We also have word that this tablet will come in 32GB and 64GB configuration later this year — with the 32GB coming as early as end of March. The 8.9-inch screen comes with a very generous 1920 by 1200 HD display and packs a 8000mAh battery pack, promising all-day entertainment and productivity. Kudos to LIVEPAD for including stereo speakers.

“We are proud to present our very first 8.9-inch tablet based on Intel and hope that our customers will be blown away by the full Windows 8.1 PC experience in its slim streamlined form factor. It was a joy to work with Intel and Microsoft to bring thistablet to market. We intend to aim high and are confident of introducing newer and greater products for both inside and outside of Malaysia”

— Daniel Chia, Head of Sales & Marketing iPro Mobile (M) Sdn Bhd.

The first 500 owners (250 from LowYat Plaza and 250 from this link) will receive a free keyboard and pouch worth RM199. Each unit will retail at RM799 for the 16GB model.

The LIVEPAD 8.9 feels extremely solid and feels nice in the hands. It has a very sleek profile and performs pretty well for what it is. The Atom processor has no problem handling Windows 8.1. Multiple Google Chrome tabs run well with the tablet as well as casual games from the Windows App Store. The stereo speakers feel week in a noisy environment but I’m sure they’re sufficiently loud when you’re just chilling on your couch or watching videos in bed. The LIVEPAD 8.9 also sports a micro HDMI port as well as a micro USB port. If you would like to use a mouse with the LIVEPAD 8.9, you would need to get an usb-OTG adapter. I am still unsure who this product is targeted towards, but it is a very reasonable device for the price it is asking for. The bluetooth keyboard and case included make a very nice combination very light word processing as well as some browsing and YouTubing. The keyboard is a bit fidgety however, sometimes not pairing properly with the device, but that may only be a problem with the unit we had. The screen looks slightly washed out but the clarity and pixel density is just insane. I find that a device this thin being able to deliver the full blown Windows 8.1 experience without heating up to fry eggs impressive.

Hopefully, we would be able to get our hands on a review unit to really drive it in all kinds of ways we can think of and take it on the road.
