HTC reportedly testing out Android Auto competitor, codenamed HTC Cello

Remember the HTC Car ecosystem that HTC used to introduce back in the first One series smartphones? It was a great however short lived implementation as the company did not really focus its marketing efforts on that and with the increasing trend of connected devices on the move, the company has decided to start its own automotive software project or otherwise releasing a new device made for cars codenamed the HTC Cello.

HTC’s Cello doesn’t seem to be just an extension of the smartphone operating system itself but rather its very own standalone operating system running on top of a car’s infotainment system that will obviously run on the company’s famous and user friendly Sense operating system. Looking at the test results itself we already know a few things – the Cello is tested on Android 4.4 KitKat and has passed tests with a variety of sensors such as a Night Vision and Sonar sensor, it will even manage DVD movies with DSP audio processing and will even monitor the vehicle’s tire pressure.

HTC’s own car operating system will definitely support its Sense powered handsets however we are not sure how the company decides to extend its use to other Android or even iOS devices since they’ve already made some of its software downloadable on Google Play for non-HTC phones. Till then, we shall keep an eye out of the HTC Cello, given that automotive software still isn’t perfect and Sense has never failed to impress in user experience all this while, we can also hazard a guess that the Cello could be powered by an NVIDIA Tegra X1 with Drive CX onboard.
