With only 2 weeks remaining in 2015, many companies are taking this opportunity to perform an end year review. Google has also done this and they’ve provided us with a look at Malaysia’s trending searches and people for 2015.

The trending searches in Malaysia is a mix of politics and entertainment. Coming in at number one for trending searchs is “HRMIS 2”, the online human resource portal for the approximately 1.5 million Malaysian civil service professionals. In second place is the government handout policy known as “BR1M 2015” where qualified Malaysians can apply for the government’s financial aid program. In third place is the photo age-guessing site “How-Old.net”. Rounding up the top 5 is the comedy act competition series “Maharaja Lawak Mega” and the favorite movie of Malaysian gearheads and rempits – “Fast & Furious 7”.

As for the trending people of 2015, the results are a bit more politics-centric. Malaysia’s most trending person of 2015 is Singapore’s founding father Lee Kuan Yew, who passed away earlier this year in March. Second on the list of trending people in Malaysia is “Fast & Furious” star Paul Walker, who was tragically killed in an automotive accident 2 years ago. In third place is the ever-so-resilient Malaysian Prime Minister, Dato’ Sri Najib Razak, thanks to a combination of scandals and political gaffes. Other entries in the top 5 include Mia Ahmad, start of the successful Malay Drama series “Hati Perempuan”, and “Kevin Morais”, the deputy prosecutor who was gruesomely murdered this year.

“Google searches continue to act as a cultural barometer that gives us a real snapshot of the major events, popular individuals and top trends that collectively made an impact on the life of Malaysians,” says Zeffri Yusof, Head of Communications and Public Affairs for Google Malaysia.
