Facebook Messenger integrates ride-sharing services into the app

Soon, you’ll be able to book a Uber ride using Facebook Messenger as the app recently integrated Uber’s service into its app.

Currently available in the US, and will be rolling out to other countries soon, Transportation on Messenger will allow users of the app to book a ride from their ride-sharing service of choice. For now, it is limited to Uber, but there are plans that other ride-sharing apps may be integrated into Messenger in the near future.

Earlier this month, Uber released their API to allow anyone to implement a “Request a Ride” button onto their app with the one clause being that competing apps are not allowed to be implemented as well. In the case of Messenger, this doesn’t seem to be the case as Techcrunch has reported that due to the fact that Transportation on Messenger is built through a private integration, this clause would not apply to Messenger.
