In conjunction of Safer Internet Day, Google is giving out free additional storage to its users as a motivation for them to perform a security checkup on their Google Drive accounts. The announcement states:

This Safer Internet Day, we’re reminded how important online safety is and hope you’ll use this as an opportunity to take 2 minutes to complete a Simple Security Checkup.

According to the announcement, the security checkup is to ensure that you’re making full use of Google’s 24/7 protection over your account. If you complete the checkup by 17 February 2016, Google promisees a 2GB bump to your Google Drive storage.

There are three things to be checked, namely to ensure your account recovery information is current, reviewing your recent sign-in activity and confirming the apps and devices that access some account information. After finishing the checkup, you’ll be eligible for the free storage which Google will be granting to users around 28 Feburary 2016.

Google also reminds you to perform the checkup in the event where you sign in on a new smartphone or laptop. However, one thing to note is this upgrade doesn’t apply to Google Apps for Work and Google Apps for Education users.
