Did Google just pull an Apple?

When Apple launched their MacBook with only one port – the USB-C, there were many complaints. Now, Google just launched its new Nexus 5X, which also uses USB Type-C cables, however they won’t be providing you a Standard-A plug. In order to connect your Nexus 5X to a computer that doesn’t have a USB-C port, you would need to spend more – US$12.99 to be exact, to get a USB-C to USB Standard-A plug cable.

Now, before you head off to scream unfairness at Google, there are other ways around this problem. For one, the Nexus 5X actually comes with 2 cables in the box. One of it has a USB-C on one end and the other end a 15W wall socket; and the other cable has USB-C on both ends of it. So, you can at least charge your phone on a wall socket; you just need a USB-C to USB Standard-A cable to use connect to your PC or to a power bank.

One funny thing though; the Nexus 6P comes with a USB-C to USB Standard-A plug cable on top of the other 2 that you get with the Nexus 5X. Strange for Google to not include such an important thing for all of its new phone models.

Another thing to note is that despite how many were ohh-ahhing about the Apple MacBook using the USB-C (whether in a good or bad way), there are also other laptop manufacturers who are using this port such as the HP Pavilion x2, Chromebook Pixel and some of Dell’s computers.

The next question we should ask instead is, when will USB-C be available for all future computers? I sure hope it won’t be the only port on the whole computer ala Apple-style.
