ASUS Malaysia really likes to surprise us media folks every time we are at their event, after the announcement of the MEMO Pad 8 and Fonepad 8, the company can’t stop surprising us by introducing the Padfone S in front of our eyes, it resembles a lot of the Zenfone’s design, except that it is simply more powerful.

The Padfone line up of phones have always been the Taiwanese company’s flagship smartphone, the Padfone S introduces super spec and the ultimate smartphone experience. Powered by a Snapdragon 801 2.3GHz Quad-Core processor mated with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage supporting MicroSD expansion, the Padfone S also supports LTE Cat 4 speeds and has passed a 150cm drop test and is IPX2 certified water resistant.

Other hardware features include a 5-inch Full HD IPS display with an extremely fast 60ms response time, the phone itself will have a 2300mAh battery. The phone’s tablet docking station has a 9” WUXGA (1920×1200) display and built-in 4990mAh battery that will technically recharge the phone 2 times if used conservatively.

The Padfone S will apparently feature ASUS’s PixelMaster camera technology on its 13 Megapixel Sony BSI sensor and 5P Largan camera module with a Super Digital Image Processor and f/2.0 aperture. The front camera is however limited to 2MP and definitely won’t be sufficient for your high resolution selfie needs. The Padfone S camera has been claimed to be even better than the Zenfone 5’s camera in low light photography.

Think the Padfone S is over RM2,000 again? ASUS Malaysia (or rather CEO Jerry Shen) has really gone bonkers this time, the Padfone S will be priced at RM899 for the phone itself and the tablet station will cost an additional RM499, which makes the total package of the Padfone S at only RM1,389! ASUS has simply undercut Big S and even some Chinese smartphone makers, the Padfone S will be available on 15 October, which will also be the local launch date of the GALAXY Note 4.
