Google has gotten a new client for its cloud platform as it is reported that Apple has struck a deal with Google to move part of iCloud and some of its other cloud-based offerings to Google Cloud Platform.
According to CRN, Apple has reportedly signed a contract that is worth between USD 400 million and USD 600 million with Google to use their cloud platform. This amount of money Apple is paying to use Google Cloud Platform is reported to be almost identical to the amount of money Apple spends on Amazon Web Services. Whatever the case, Apple would be the second high profile client that Google has on its Cloud Platform, the first being Spotify.
With this development, Apple seems to be relying on three different data centres to power iCloud. According to sources, Apple is currently using a combination of Amazon Web Services, Microsoft’s Azure, as well as their own data centres.
