Back way in mid-September, the first few Radeon R9 380X cards have emerged but it is this coming 15th where AMD plans to officially launch the new performance-segment SKU. It will be priced at about US$249 (RM1,080), competing between the R9 390/GTX 970 and the R9 380. The R9 380X aims at closing the gap between the Nvidia product stack right in between the GTX 960 and the GTX 970.

Based on the same exact silicon as the R9 380, it will offer pins for 256-bit wide GDDR5 memory interface but not the 384-bit interface that the “Tonga” aka “Antigua” silicon physically supports. All the 32 Graphics CoreNext compute units (CUs) are enabled, housing 2048 stream processors. It will also feature 128 TMUs and 32 ROPs, with the core clocked as high as 1100MHz. The memory on the other hand will be at 6.00 GHz with a standard memory amount of 4 GB. Reference design won’t be available for this card but AMD AIB partners will be ready with custom-designed products at launch.
