AMD accuses Intel of biased benchmarks

AMD aren’t very happy with their competitors Intel as the former is accusing the latter of “biased” and “unreliable” benchmarks.

In a video published by AMD titled “Truth or Myth: Is SYSmark a Reliable Benchmark”, AMD’s John Hampton and Tony Salinas took the benchmark tool to town, claiming that the tool itself unfairly favours Intel products by putting too much emphasis on raw CPU performance.

To prove their point, both men put an Intel Core i5 processor and an AMD FX chip through three different tests. In the first test using SYSmark, the Core i5 managed a score of 987 while the AMD platform scored 659. Both men noted that the difference in score between shows a “delta of 50%”, saying that “it’s not realistic in what real life performance is like”.

Following up on SYSmark, AMD then put both processors through PCMark8. The results from this benchmark is less exaggerated, as there is only a 7% difference in score between both processors. Lastly, AMD used a custom script which records the amount of the time each processor takes to complete a set of tasks within Microsoft Office. The result? The Intel processor accomplished its task in 62 seconds while the AMD system completed its run in 64 seconds.

As of the time of writing, Intel has yet to reply to AMD’s accusation.
