Eric Springer has launched a scathing attack against Amazon as the company’s customer support team is suspected to have given away Springer’s private information through a social engineering “hack”.
On a blogpost published at Medium, Springer went through his entire ordeal surrounding the incident. According to Springer, someone has utilised his whois information in order to impersonate him. Using said information, the individual then contacted Amazon Customer Support and wound up receiving Springer’s actual address and phone number.
Two more social engineering attempts were made after the intial attempt with the individual attempting to get Springer’s credit card information with the last one being a phone call and as such, no transcripts were made available. There are no updates as to whether said individual has managed to acquire Springer’s credit card information.
As of the time of writing, Amazon has not responded to the allegations.
