If Xiaomi is the biggest smartphone brand in China, then Micromax is also a similar one over at India, the latter’s subsidiary Yu has just announced a pretty decent handset that costs similar to the Redmi 2 over in India. The Yu Yuphoria has a premium metal frame across its trim and will cost Indian customers a mere Rs.6999 (MYR392).

Not only the phone’s aesthetics are beautiful for its given price, it comes with a Snapdragon 410 64-bit processor with 2GB RAM, a 720p 5-inch display with Gorilla Glass 3, an 8-megapixel f/2.0 main camera and 5-megapixel f/2.2 front camera, 16GB of internal flash expandable via MicroSD, Dual SIM 4G LTE standby and a 2,230mAh battery.

On the software side, Micromax has loaded up the phone with Cyanogenmod 12 based on Android Lollipop 5.0 and that alone, gives itself a pretty huge advantage over its competitors in the market given the success of the custom Android software on devices such as OnePlus One, if Micromax or Yu happens to reach out globally just like Xiaomi, we believe the Yuphoria could be a big hit among budget conscious consumers.

The phone will be available on May 28 and you can head on to Amazon India’s website to pre-register your interest for the phones, while we aren’t sure if Malaysians are able to order a unit here and even if you can, you’ll need to shell out a heft sum for shipping charges. Once this phone becomes available, competitors like Xiaomi and ASUS had better take note of this device.
