Let’s put it this way, the Yotaphone has never impressed when it comes to hardware internals, however you can’t deny that dual screen design is one heck cool concept that may prove to be useful if you can use its secondary e-paper display to perform some major tasks to save power, the first generation Yotaphone apparently has failed us. Yota Devices have confirmed to sources that its 2nd generation smartphone will be selling in the US through Indiegogo at the price of $600, which is relatively cheaper than what was initially reported.

Looking at this initiative, it seems that Yota Devices has learnt that its product will not be sold off the shelves that easily if it doesn’t go by the crowdfunding model, which has obviously worked for Pebble in Kickstarter. After successful funding, the company will then expand the sale of the Yotaphone 2 to US retailers such as Best Buy and Amazon. The Yotaphone 2 has a Snapdragon 801 CPU, 2GB RAM, 32GB built-in memory, an 8-megapixel AF main camera, a 5-inch Super AMOLED Full HD main display and a secondary 4.7-inch 960×540 e-paper display.

Local availability of the Yotaphone 2 has not been revealed however we assume if Yota’s local distributor isn’t too anal about its profit margin, the phone could very much retail at the price tag of RM2,099 after GST is included, stay tuned while we bring you updates of the phone’s availability.
