After attending Xiaomi’s local event launch and taking a first look at the Redmi 2, we are now moving on to the unboxing of the Chinese company’s latest entry level smartphone. The phone comes in the same solid cardboard packaging similar to other devices and includes the phone’s removable battery, MicroUSB cable and a 3-pin UK charger. Even though Xiaomi has made marginal updates to the phone’s hardware internals, the Redmi 2 has a slimmer and lighter body at 9.3mm and 133 grams, its body weight distribution is also more balanced which results in a much better aesthetics.

The upgraded internals on the Redmi 2 includes a more efficient 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 quad-core processor, an upgraded front facing 2-megapixel camera, a slightly bigger 2200mAh battery and supports dual SIM 4G LTE standby, unfortunately the local variant of the phone doesn’t come with the 2GB RAM and 16GB internal storage configuration that is sold in China, which is really a shame. In other aspects, the Redmi 2 features Quick Charge 1.0 technology that is assisted by Qualcomm’s SoC and comes preloaded with MIUI 6 based on Android 4.4 KitKat. The phone will begin selling at March 17 2015, 12PM over at www.mi.com/my at the price of RM449, we’ll try to conclude our review and some comparisons of the phone before that date so you can consider your purchase. Otherwise, our first impressions of the Redmi 2 is pretty positive. Stay tuned.
