Volvo is feeling very confident in its car tech, so much so that the company is aiming to make their cars deathproof by 2020.

According to a report by CNN, Volvo has been the number of people that died in its vehicles in order to monitor safety. This data would allow their engineers to tell how much safer their vehicles become each time they introduce a new crash-prevention technology. As Volvo is also one of the car companies that are experimenting with self-driving cars, the long term goal for the company is to combine both safety tech and self-driving tech into a car that would be considered crashproof, and maybe even deathproof.

“With the development of full autonomy, we are going to push the limits of automotive safety. Because if you make a fully autonomous vehicle, you have to think through everything that potentially can happen with a car,” says Erik Coelingh, safety engineer for Volvo.

But before you make plans to purchase a Volvo car in the near future, Volvo did mention that even if the car is labelled deathproof, it will not be able to protect drivers who are stupid or are intentionally reckless.
