What happens when there is a product on the CES showfloor that has allegedly infringe on another company’s patents? That question was answered today as US Marshals have raided and shut down a booth at Las Vegas.

The Onewheel

The product in question is called the Trotter, a one-wheeled skateboard made by Changzhou First International Trade Co.. According to Bloomberg, the raid was the result of a weekslong effort by Future Motion, a Silicon Valley startup that said it invented and patented a self-balancing electric skateboard called the One Wheel. Future Motion has since filed an emergency motion for injunctive relief, which led to the raid on Changzhou First’s booth.

“Knocking off an invention that is patented and carefully quality-controlled is a disservice and unsafe to consumers. We will continue to vigorously defend our intellectual property rights around the world,” says Kyle Doerksen, CEO of Future Motion.

Changzhou First’s booth has since been shut down by the marshals. All signs, fliers and the Trotter itself has been confiscated as well.
