Not long after some claims of a possible Microsoft acquistion of SwiftKey, both parties have announced the buyover on their official blogs.

SwiftKey claims the agreement to join Microsoft as a milestone for them, whereas Microsoft stated on their blog that the aquistion was proof of their commitment to bring its service and software to all platforms.

It’s good news for SwiftKey users as the app won’t be shutdown on their platforms. Instead, Microsoft claims that they will continue to develop the most popular 3rd party keyboard app across Android and iOS platforms, while using its internal technology, applying it across its products and services. The company also stated that SwiftKey’s predictive technology will help assist in their development of intelligent systems.

Microsoft has also announced future plans to integrate SwiftKey technology with their homegrown Word Flow technology for Windows. What do you think about this buyover by Microsoft? Did you see it coming? Comment below.
