Skydio introduced its first self-flying camera, the Skydio R1 and now it fully supports Apple Watch so users can control the R1 directly from their wrists.
Skydio R1 is similar to drones, except that it doesn’t come with a controller or need a pilot. It has 12 navigation cameras and uses Nvidia processors that are also used for self-driving cars. The technology in the R1 enables it to understand the surrounding environment and identify and differentiate humans, and the motion planning system made it possible for the R1 to capture its subject while diligently avoiding obstacles.
Users can easily launch the self-flying camera through their smartphones and as mentioned, the Apple Watch. Simply install the Skydio app on your Watch, and you can fully operate the device from your wrist. Launching, rotating, landing and changing the different cinematic skills that are offered by the R1 can all be done through your Apple Watch. You can also choose who to follow using your R1 and now on Apple Watch, there will be thumbnail images of people it sees, hence you can tap on whoever you want, and the R1 will follow and focus on that person. The Skydio app also allows stabilised HD video clips to be created, and for further editing, users can download the UHD 4K files to their computer via USB.
Skydio also announced that the Apple stores will start selling the R1, thought it’s probably not going to be in Malaysia anytime soon.
