It seems that the Xbox One won’t be the only console that may be undergoing an upgrade as rumours are going around that Sony is currently at work developing the PlayStation 4.5.
According to sources from Kotaku, Sony has briefed some developers about the PS4.5. Thus far, the only known information about the PS4.5 is that it would feature an upgraded GPU to support both high-end 4K resolution for games. The increase in its processing power would also enhance PlayStation VR supported games.
Currently, the PS4 is able to output 4K photos and videos, but cannot support 4K resolutions for games. With this upgrade, the PS4 could theoretically run games at 4K resolution, but whether or not the performance would be up to par is a different story entirely. That said, the upgraded GPU would allow developers to push more effects and other graphical tweaks to make their games look better.
As for pricing and release date, sources are saying that Sony is aiming for a Fall launch with a pricetag of USD 400, which is the initial price of the PS4. Again, these are all rumours, so take it with a pinch of salt.
