Old Kindles need to be updated today to avoid being disconnected from the internet

If you own a Kindle that dates back to 2012 or earlier, you are going to want to update that e-reader immediately as after today, your old Kindles won’t be able to connect to the internet until it is manually updated.

Kindles usually automatically download updates when they are connected to the internet, but if yours have been gathering dust at a corner of the house, you might want to boot it on and update it before the day is over. Failure to do so will result in your Kindle not being able to connect to the internet until you update it manually via downloading the update file from Amazon’s website and transferring it to your Kindle via USB cable.

Yes, it’s not the end of the world for your old Kindles, but you should really update those Kindles just to save the headache that it might cause you. This update applies to the 1st Generation Kindle that was released in 2007, all the way up to the 5th Generation Kindle Paperwhite that was released in 2012.
