Failure to do so will result in your Kindle not being able to connect to the internet until you update it manually via downloading the update file from Amazon’s website and transferring it to your Kindle via USB cable.
Yes, it’s not the end of the world for your old Kindles, but you should really update those Kindles just to save the headache that it might cause you. This update applies to the 1st Generation Kindle that was released in 2007, all the way up to the 5th Generation Kindle Paperwhite that was released in 2012.
