Oculus fumbles on Rift shipping

It’s been a week since the Rift was officially launched, and yet, some of those who preordered the headset have yet to receive any kind of indication that their product is on the way to their houses.

Today, Oculus have admitted that they’re run into some issues with getting the Rift headsets out of the factory and into the customer’s hands. Oculus CEO Brendan iribe has posted on Twitter, remarking that the first batch of Rifts were “going out slower than we originally estimated.” An e-mail has also been issued to those who pre-ordered the headset, attributing the delay in shipping to “an unexpected component shortage.”

“We’ve been working through an unexpected component shortage, and unfortunately, that issue has impacted the original shipping estimates for some early customers. We’re working hard to get up-to-date ship windows, and you should expect to see your order status updated on oculus.com by Tuesday, April 12th,” states the e-mail.

To make up for this mess, Oculus says that it will be waiving shipping and handling charges for all orders that have yet to be fulfilled. Yes, this also includes international orders.
