Newegg to sue patent trolls

Last September, a patent-holding company called Minero Digital sued over two dozen American retailers and manufacturers for royalty payments on a wide range of USB hubs. Among those sued was Rosewill, a Newegg subsidiary that specializes in computer peripherals like power supplies, cases, memory and cables. Minero Digital would eventually drop its lawsuit against Rosewill with days of getting a call from Newegg’s lawyer, but it seems that this isn’t the end of the case as now, Newegg has filed its own lawsuit against Minero.

This lawsuit, filed in the Los Angeles federal court, is asking a judge to rule that Rosewill products do not infringe Minero’s patent. According to Newegg’s Chief Legal Officer Lee Cheng, he states that the move is necessary since Minero dismissed its Texas lawsuit without prejudice, allowing the company to refile the case at a time of its choosing.

Newegg’s lawsuit asks only for a judicial ruling of non-infringement and is not asking for money damages against Minero Digital.
