Microsoft silently announces the Surface 3 tablet starting from RM1,879

We weren’t really quite expecting this, as Microsoft has launched its powerful Surface Pro 3 half a year ago, the company yesterday silently announce the arrival of the lower end Surface 3 Tablet, the new 2-in-1 computing device is now 8.7mm thin and 622 grams light, which is significantly more portable than its Pro sibling. The best thing this time, is that the company has preloaded the tablet with full blown Windows 8.1 and soon upgraeable to Windows 10, bye Windows RT.

Specs of the Surface 3 isn’t mind blowing however it should be sufficient to perform simple office tasks on the go, it sports an Intel Cherry Trail based Atom x7-Z8700 1.6GHz Quad-Core processor with a turbo boost of up to 2.4GHz, up to 4GB of RAM and 128GB of SSD storage. The Surface 3 has an 8-megapixel rear and 3.5-megapixel front camera setup, WiFi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 4.0 and a 10 hour battery life. The tablet’s display size is now 10.8-inches with a Full HD (1920×1080) resolution and comes with a number of input ports – a MicroUSB 2.0 port for charging and syncing the device, a standard size USB 3.0 port, a MicroSD cardreader, a MiniDisplay Port and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

Since the Surface 3 uses less powerful but still capable internals, the retail price of the base configuration starts from RM1,879 with 2GB RAM and 64GB of SSD storage and up to RM2,249 with 4GB RAM and 128GB SSD storage. Therefore, this is a pretty good buy if you are looking for a portable 2-in-1 device on the go. In addition to that, the Surface 3 does come with optional accessories such as the keyboard type cover and the Surface Pen, and Microsoft is offering One Year of Office 365 Personal subscription to Surface 3 owners.
