Canonical, the company behind Ubuntu, emphasized on convergence like Microsoft’s Continuum by launching its first tablet, the BQ Aquaris M10. Now we have a Chinese OEM, Meizu, who is helping Ubuntu to heighten its name in the smartphone OS competition.

For Ubuntu loyalists, enter the Meizu Pro 5 Ubuntu Edition, which is the most powerful Ubuntu phone yet, based on its specs. Like its Android counterpart, the Pro 5 features a 5.7 inch 1080 AMOLED screen and a fingerprint sensor. The device sports a 21MP rear facing camera and a 5MP selfie shooter.

Underneath lies Samsung’s powerful Exynos 7420 SoC, the same processor powering the Galaxy Note 5, alongside 3GB or 4GB of RAM and 32GB or 64GB of internal storage. All of these supported by a 3,050mAh battery which is quick charge compatible via Meizu’s own mCharge technology. All in all, the Pro 5 Ubuntu Edition features the same specs to the likes of the Pro 5 running Android Lollipop.

Users might not be able to converge with the lack of an MHL output on the Meizu Pro 5 Ubuntu Edition. However the device is said to be running Ubuntu’s latest code which can provide a traditional desktop experience. Maybe there’s a workaround to fulfill that convergence feature but that has yet to be known.

The Meizu Pro 5 Ubuntu Edition will be available for pre order when MWC commences next Monday. Ubuntu loyalists, what say you?
