It seems that the clock is finally ticking for Intel’s series of Core processors as rumours are swirling around that Intel is currently in the process of studying a new microarchitecture that will replace the current x86 microarchitecture in the desktop and enterprise market.
Sources speaking to bitsandchips reveal that the upcoming Intel approach to the new microarchitecture will be similar to that of AMD with its Zen processor. The upcoming chip will attempt to balance power consumption, performance and price. As Intel is looking to create a smaller die with the next generation of processors to improve the power consumption-to-performance ratio, Intel is said to be throwing away some old SIMD and old hardware remainders.
Assuming that the rumours surrounding Intel’s new processor microarchitecture turns out to be true, the processors will likely hit the market in 2019. This would mean that TigerLake will be the last of the Core processors when it becomes available in 2019.
