Google's Self Driving Car gets into its first accident

Google’s own self driving car has hit a new “milestone” today as a DMV report shows that said self driving car has gotten into a minor accident while it was operated by the AI.

According to the report, the Google Lexus-model autonomous vehicle (Google AV) “made contact” with the side of the bus as the car was reentering the center of the lane. The report further states that the Google AV was operating in autonomous mode and travelling at less than 2 MPH, and the bus wasa travelling at 15 MPH.

This isn’t the first time Google’s self-driving-cars have been involved in an accident. Indeed, these cars were involved in over a dozen fender benders over the years. The main difference however, is that previous accidents were caused by a human driver. This particular accident occured when the car was driven in “autonomous mode”, or in layman’s term, being driven by the AI.

Suffice to say, the biggest problem that self driving cars will be facing in the future would be unpredictable human behaviours. Seeing as self driving cars won’t be made available for the foreseeable future, Google still has time to work out a solution to counter this issue.
