Samsung experimented the consumer market with the launch of the Galaxy Note Edge back in 2014, featuring a curved edge display. Following its success, the Korean OEM went on to launch the S6 Edge and S6 Edge Plus, with the addition of the S7 Edge just last week at MWC. We’ve just received news that Samsung is selling its Dual Edge displays to Chinese OEM’s.

According to Korean site ET News, OEM’s Huawei, Xiaomi and Vivo will have their smartphones feature the Edge display in the future. There is also a rumored smartphone by Vivo, known as the XPlay5, which is tipped to be sporting the Dual Edge display after a teaser image was uploaded onto Chinese site Weibo. Apart from the curved edge screen, the XPlay5 is also rumored to be equipped with a whopping 6GB of RAM, running alongside a Snapdragon 820, proving it to be a worthy competitor among elite flagship handsets of 2016.

It is said that selling its Dual Edge displays is part of Samsung’s plan to push out Samsung’s AMOLED panels, which might just make up for its slowdown in smartphone sales. This doesn’t come as much of a surprise since Samsung has mainly been selling its AMOLED panels to Chinese OEM’s in Q3 last year and had good returns from that. Although we haven’t heard much from Xiaomi and Huawei about Dual Edge display, they certainly aren’t the first to adopt the display as Blackberry’s Priv sported the curved edge screen when it was launched last year.

We might be looking at a wave of smartphones with curved edge displays in the future. Who knows? We might even be seeing Apple succumb to a Dual Edge display for its iPhone’s. Stay tuned as we bring you more news!
