Valve’s popular shooting game, Counter-Strike : Global Offensive, has gone free-to-play. Besides its new release of the game’s new battle royale mode, Danger zone, the publisher have also announced that Steam users can now download and play CS: GO for free, whereas for existing players, they will be automatically upgraded to Prime Status.

In addition to that, for those who have been upgraded to Prime Status are entitled to get a free weapon skin for a limited time. But there’s a catch, in order to get the free weapon skin, you’ll need to earn 250 XP
in the aforementioned Danger Zone, which can be done by killing enemies, completing objectives, and surviving. For new players who would like to upgrade to Prime Status, can do so by paying $15.

Similarly like PUBG and other battle royale games, Danger Zone drops the players into a shrinking map and players fight to be the last one remaining in the game. According to Valve, “it is a fast-paced battle royale game mode built on CS: GO tactical game play”. Other than that, it also features some elements that is not commonly found in other games such as the ability to earn money by completing contracts, opening safes and carrying hostages to a rescue zone.

Apart from that, CS: GO’s Danger Zone is different in terms of its player count. Unlike other battle royale games where it supports 100 players, Danger Zone player capacity is limited to either 16 players when jumping in solo or 18 when playing as a squad. With a smaller player count, the game matches are much shorter compared to the normal time played on other battle royale games that could exceed to at least 20 minutes per game.

Danger zone is now available as a free update for CS: GO and the mode will be installed automatically when players log into the game.
