The BlackBerry Priv wasn’t a flop. In fact, it was a solid and an impressive Android device, the first, by the Canadian manufacturer. However, BlackBerry is still drowning and left behind, with the Priv failing to make a difference to their declining smartphone sales. According to The National, BlackBerry CEO John Chen stated that BlackBerry is prepping two smartphones to be released later this year.

Chen claims that BlackBerry will be shifting its focus to the mid range market. He admitted that enterprise customers will be more interested in a $400 (RM1,566.86) phone than the Priv which costs $700 (RM2,742.01). Assuming that BlackBerry is focusing on the mid range market, the two upcoming smartphone will most likely cost less than the premium Priv. Chen stated that one handset will feature the legacy QWERTY keyboard and the other is a full-on touch device.

Chen added that he will opt out from the handset business if the company still fails to find its foot in the mobile market. Whether or not the alleged mid rangers will be powered by Android or BlackBerry OS has yet to be confirmed. What do you think about BlackBerry’s new venture?
